Now, who isn’t familiar with Paulo? (But if you are not, he’s the Brazilian guy who wrote the alchemist). If you are a reader looking for some fun stuff to read I’ve got you covered and if you are a non-reader looking to develop your taste, these books are a perfect start for you too. So, let’s get started.
5: The Spy by Paulo Coelho:
This is a book about a Dancer called “Mata Hari” who was accused of being a spy for Germany during World War 1. The story has been told by many authors but God! The way Paulo tells it you would fall in love with him. His words will connect you to the characters and you will feel every emotion he created. He is famous for observing life in a spiritual manner and in this book; he took the story to the place where a reader’s spirit actually connects with the main character. From Mata Hari’s struggle as a dancer to the false accusations and eventual execution (it’s not a spoiler, trust me) your interest will remain intact.
My favorite line from the book:
“When we don’t know where life is taking us we are never lost” (Yeah! Let that sink in.)
4: The pilgrimage:
This one is also called Paulo’s autobiography. It is about when he took his life-changing pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, Spain (A beautiful city indeed, I’ve googled it). In this book, he writes about all the experiences he had in that journey, his spiritual awakening, his struggle to achieve the reward by his master, his flirt with death, confrontation with other creations, and spiritual exercises and rituals he learned. This is a story full of magic and mystery, which makes it hard to believe and so fun to read.
My favorite line from the book:
“You drown not by falling into a river, but by staying submerged in it” (I don’t know why I’m telling you this but you’ll also find this line in the movie Extraction)
3: Manual of the warrior of light:
This work of art is full of wisdom, proverbs, and some next-level life advice. The story starts with a woman appearing before a boy telling him about a temple on the island. The boy goes looking for it but couldn’t find it; in the meantime, the woman also disappears. The Boy hears fisherman talking about the temple bells and he decides to leave everything and wait at the shore for bells to ring imagining that there would be lost treasure in the temple (I know right?). A year passes and he hears nothing but in that year he learns to connect with the natural world and the moment his greed for treasure disappears he hears the bells and then he moves on with life. Years later he comes back and meets that woman again and she asks him to write a manual for the warriors of light just like him, which is every person who doesn’t give up on growth and learning. In my view, this book is nothing less than a spiritual text. After reading it you’ll gain a different insight on a lot of things. It will make you question yourself I can assure you that.
My favorite line from the book
“Warriors of light are not perfect. Their beauty lies in accepting this fact and still desiring to grow and to learn.”
2: The alchemist:
This book is called “life-changing” by millions of people around the globe and the one that gave Paulo the most recognition. It is about a boy named Santiago who keeps dreaming about treasures in the pyramids of Egypt. So he decides to take a journey towards his dream and then, the struggle begins. This book is some life-changing game covered in fiction. It’s the story of faith, struggle, and growth. If you are struggling to achieve a dream and need a push, go straight to this book, it won’t let you down. If you are someone who is trying to find your personal legend, this is your jam too.
‘’Everyone’s” favorite line from this book:
“And, when you want something, the entire universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”
1: Adultery:
Now, this one is a kinda-sorta controversial text from Paulo Coelho. Some say it’s a story about adrenaline rush and some say it’s a story of real love. For me, this book was life-changing. It is about a middle-aged woman named Linda who is in an identity crisis in spite of having a loving husband, obedient children, and a well-paid honorable job, She feels hollow and everything strikes meaningless to her so, she commits adultery and then regains the meaning of everything around her. Now before you say such a bitch; read it and then decide for yourself. Unlike its title, this book reveals the true meaning of love, the importance of risks, the beauty of adventure, and the difference between love and possession.
My favorite line from the book:
“Love isn't just a feeling. It's an art. And like any art, it takes not only inspiration but also a lot of work.”
