5 Most influential Eco-Fighters of this century

The history of Environmentalism goes way back to the 1800s when it first originated from Romanticism. Unlike the name suggests Romanticism was an ideology that was not based on Love but on emotions. In the later 1800s, as the environmental movement grew, history witnessed countless activists rise to this movement's defense. Nazis, scientists, conservationists, lawyers, entrepreneurs, politicians, and students. But I'm keeping it current. These are the top 5 environmental activists that I think have created most influence in the 21st century. So let's get to it.

Sir David Attenborough:
Green star award winner sir David Attenborough has spent 60 years of his life in service of the environmental movement. He is a British broadcaster and is called Britain's National asset. The best part of the story is, he has been an environmental educator since the time when "going green" was not as fashionable as it is now. He authored many documentaries regarding the issue. His most famous works include "The state of the planet (2000) ", " the truth about climate change (2006), and "how many people can live on planet earth (2009). To this day he is very vocal about climate change and its impacts on the planet.

Jane Goodall:
She is the revolutionary Primatologist who redefined the traditional conservation. Having made friendly contact with a chimp some 60 years ago she devoted herself to animal conservation and bridging the gap between humans and animals. she is the leading voice of animal rights and conservation. at 26 she was sent to Tanzania to study chimps. She persuaded the president of Tanzania to make protected areas for wildlife. Her organization works for wildlife conservation and protection. Her speeches have made millions of people eco-aware.

Severn Suzuki:
Famously known as " the girl who silenced the world for 5 minutes at the Rio earth summit" Severn Suzuki is a Canadian environmental activist, speaker, TV host, and author. Her story started when at 8 she founded a children's organization to educate other kids about the environment. At 12 she raised money to attend earth summit at Rio de Janeiro and gave her historic speech about environmental issues from a youngster's point of view. After graduating in ecology, in 2002 she helped launch an internet-based think tank called "the Skyfish project" which later on disbanded in 2004. Her voice is still one of the most heard in the history of environmentalism.

Greta Thunberg:
Winner of multiple honorary awards and two consecutive nominations for Nobel peace prize, this Swedish environmental activist has come a long way. At 15 she urged her parents to reduce their carbon footprint and then went on sitting outside the Swedish Parliament holding a sign reading "school strike for climate". Other students working for the same goal in different communities joined her and together, they gave rise to a new movement called    "Fridays for future ". Today, she is the voice of thousands. Her famous speech in the 2019 UN climate change summit exclaiming " how dare you" was taken up by the media as  "the Greta effect". The strike for the future is still in action. Youngsters are screaming at the top of their lungs for leaders to listen and take action. She sparked something greater than all.

Leonardo DiCaprio:
After Being lashed out at by environmentalists during one of his film shooting Leo got into the game. In 1998 he created Leonardo DiCaprio foundation to support the initiatives and projects regarding the welfare of the planet. To this time he is vocal about the most pressing issues we face such as climate change, accessibility to clean water, wildlife conservation, and disaster relief. We all remember his Oscar speech, right?. Over the last 22 years, he has raised public awareness of environmental issues. He is using the biggest platform to educate his followers

The impact of science on society: Bertrand Russell's analysis

"Knowledge is power, but it is power for evil as much as for good. It follows that, unless men increase in wisdom as much as in knowledge, increase of knowledge will be increase of sorrow"  These are the words of Bertrand Russell. A British polymath, logician, mathematician, antiwar activist, philosopher, and an author. He has been called "the father of logic" by many and there's no doubt that he is. I'm taking you to one of his most famous works; the impact of science on society. About the book:  The book consists of lectures delivered by him on many occasions. Almost all of these lectures were delivered after world war 2. The idea of this book revolves around both positive and negative impacts that science created on society. Also, what can still happen in future. How can mankind use science to move towards prosperity or deterioration. It gives a clear insight on scientific democracy and dictatorship. Russell's philosophy involves rationality and truth...

You, me and Microplastics

Microplastics (MPs) are the hottest topic now a days and they should be because they are everywhere and by everywhere I mean EVERYWHERE. The oceans, the Islands, the lakes, the sediments, inside the organisms and even in human blood too. before we go further lets see What are they?  There is no agreed upon definition of Mps in scientific literature but some scientists define them as tiny plastic particles with a size range between 1Ξm-5mm. They can be of different shapes and colors (transparent as well)  and are released into the environment directly or indirectly. Directly through washing machines, industries and personal care products (watch your glitter use, folks) while Indirect exposure means the breakdown of larger plastic pieces into smaller ones (how? a topic for another day). Why Worry?  Mps are a pollutant of emerging concern for multiple reasons.  They are everywhere  They are a threat to ecological health  Small organisms eat them and they ...
