we all have heard the phrase "jack of all trades, master of none" but I'm taking you to a brain that would say "bitch please". The world has witnessed a few minds that were way ahead of any kind of limitations that might be implemented on a human being. One of those extraordinary brains was Leonardo da Vinci. a man whose genius was way ahead of his time. To me, he was not just a person he was a school of thought. In his life, he bridged the gap between science and art so beautifully that his genius is still a mystery to the world. Davinci believed that science and art were intertwined fields. Quoting his own words;
" To develop a complete mind: Study the science of art; study the art of science. Learn how to see. Realize that everything connects to everything else."
HIS LIFE IN 60 SECONDS:
the illegitimate son of a local lawyer Piero and a poor peasant Catarina, his childhood, as we can tell was a drag. His father left his mother for a rich woman and left him at the art studio of a famous artist of that time "Andrea Del Verrocchio" who mentored him until he was able to make his own art studio and had his own apprentices. And the game began there. there was hardly any area of knowledge that Da Vinci didn't explore. His curiosity has led him to be a global inspiration either its science or art. Painting, drawing, sculpting, anatomy, mathematics, engineering, war technology, aviation, paleontology, cartography, architecture, music, literature, geology, astronomy, botany, and much more. And you know what the best part is? he was master of everything he did.
His Art:
We all are familiar with his famous drawing "Vitruvian man" which is a mixture of art and geometry. we all know his world-famous paintings "Mona Lisa" which is art mixed with extraordinary knowledge of anatomy and "the last supper" whose technique speaks for itself. The guy literally dissected corpses to bring realism to his art. Unlike most of the drawings and paintings of the Renaissance period, his paintings exhibit a linear perspective. A lot of his paintings left incomplete but the one's made it to the world, are only one of their kind.
His Science:
When it comes to science, he was among the first people who envisioned a "war tank", "the flying machine" and "the first bicycle". For the duke of Milan, he built weaponry. He studied the structure of the brain and muscles which was so detailed and accurate according to his time. His notebooks are still studied by modern scientists and the structures of machines he drew are considered buildable. Due to a lack of formal scientific education, His scientific inventions were not taken seriously. Few of his drawings were called unorthodox. And we can not blame the people for that because his genius was actually ahead of his time. can you imagine all these things being done at that time? by a single brain? Me neither.
his genius built a bridge between science and art. Only a few other geniuses just like him were born in the following centuries straddling the line between art and science.
WHERE DOES IT TAKE US?
In my opinion, After all we have accomplished as human civilization there is still a wall between science and art. schools teach children to master one thing at a very young age killing their curiosity for the other. The idea of a complete mind should be understood by everyone. Our mind is capable of a lot of things and today, we lack minds like him is because we have killed our curiosity one way or another. the idea of a complete mind should be the motto of the education system everywhere. Learning about minds like da Vinci's, anyone can restore the buds of curiosity that were cut during your school times. don't believe me? see for yourself.
